About
Dr. Yoshunda Jones and Sharon King
The 5181 Foundation was founded in February of 2023 after devastating tornados destroyed over 200 homes in Griffin, Georgia. Born and raised in the small town of Griffin we knew of the existing housing crisis and predicted that the loss of these houses would dramatically worsen the situation.

While working to acquire properties, we quickly recognized the need for Housing Advocates; someone to amplify the voice of those who are suffering in deplorable living conditions.

Making An Impact

1
community engagement
Through creating focused workshops, we strive to inform renters of their rights, the proper channels to request repairs, and how our local government shapes your everyday life.

We partner with other local nonprofits to bring real change to our community and strengthen the bonds of local support.
2
shaping policy
The 5181 Foundation has worked alongside Senator Ossoff’s team to highlight federal policy that needs amending. We participated in a Senate hearing and were recognized by the Senator for our efforts in housing. We are proud to say we have developed a working relationship with Senator Ossoff’s team and look forward to bringing legislative change.
3
advocacy services
Since our start in 2023, we have proudly served 85 residents in Griffin-Spalding County. We serve families living in subsidized and nonsubsidized rental housing to understand lease terms, renters' rights, and the repairs process. For those living in subsidized housing, we help to navigate lease certifications and utility check reimbursement.
